WHAT STUDIO LOCATION DO YOU GO TO? I used to go to Lexington but recently moved and now go to Sudbury.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN COMING TO BTONE? I have been going to btone since 2012!!
HOW OFTEN DO YOU COME? I have an 11 month old which has thrown off my schedule the past year, but I try to make it at least 5-6 days a week. There was a long period of time pre baby that unless I was on vacation or away for work I was there everyday.
TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF? I work as a green coffee buyer for a local roaster which has me traveling quite a lot through out the year to remote parts of Central and South America, as well as Africa. I love coffee and I love traveling so it is a perfect fit. I have always had a lot of energy and when I was younger I found ballet and dance to be a great outlet for it. I stopped dancing in my teens and never found another physical activity that I absolutely loved and felt dedicated to day in and day out until I found btone! The rest is history, I am obsessed. I have moved 3 times in the past few years and have always located the closest btone.
WHAT DO YOU REMEMBER ABOUT YOUR FIRST CLASS? Oh my god how sore I was! I couldn't move and I loved it!!
HOW HAS BTONE CHANGED THE WAY YOU FEEL ABOUT WORKING OUT? I started btone with my goal being to lose weight but it turned into something totally different, I now work out to feel strong and healthy physically and mentally and the rest just kind of follows.
HOW HAS BTONE CHANGED THE WAY YOU FEEL ABOUT YOURSELF? My confidence, my clothes fit better and I feel toned and healthy.
WHAT ACTIVITIES DO YOU FIND EASIER NOW DUE TO THE WORKOUT? Everything. Even getting up in the morning my energy is much better. I definitely feel like btone has helped me physically through my first year of motherhood. I started up btone the day I was given the ok from the doctors. There is a lot of lifting, squatting, bending, and chasing involved with my daughter.
WHATS YOUR FAVORITE EXERCISE AND WHY? Lunges, they are always challenging, you can modify to make it hard or harder, and you see results fast.
WHATS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT THE STUDIO? All the studios have a wonderful welcoming feel, the instructors all have their own techniques which makes the classes always a little different and your body always works a little bit harder.
WHAT WOULD YOU TELL SOMEONE THAT HAS NEVER BEEN TO THE STUDIO BEFORE AND IS ABOUT TO TAKE THEIR FIRST CLASS? Prepare to not be able to walk for the next three days.
ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT TO ADD? I am very thankful for btone becoming a part of my daily life. It really has changed my body and how I feel about myself. Thanks to all the btone instructors, I love your energy and classes!

HOW HAS BTONE CHANGED THE WAY YOU FEEL ABOUT WORKING OUT? I look forward to working out, going to Btone has become an essential part of my daily routine.

WHAT ACTIVITIES DO YOU FIND EASIER NOW DUE TO THE WORKOUT? Pretty much everything!

TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF? I’m 23, recently moved to Back Bay via Washington, DC, and work in the philanthropy world.
WHAT DO YOU REMEMBER ABOUT YOUR FIRST CLASS? How lovely everyone was. I expected to be the only new person, but like most classes, there were a few others that were new to the megaformer as well. And of course the soreness the next day!
HOW HAS BTONE CHANGED THE WAY YOU FEEL ABOUT WORKING OUT? Although I played soccer and volleyball competitively growing up, I have always been someone who preferred working out by myself. Before moving to Boston, I worked with a personal trainer for a number of years, and preferred training one-on-one or solo. In the past, when I attended group exercise classes, I usually felt like I was too busy figuring out what I was supposed to be doing to get a good workout, and would leave feeling like I could have pushed myself harder if I had been working out by myself. This completely changed when I started at btone. Not only do I know that I am getting a challenging workout every time I come, but because class sizes are small, you get personalized attention and form correction. I really enjoy working out in these small groups now, and feel like my workouts can still be unplugged meditative time, even if I am following an instructor through a class.
HOW HAS BTONE CHANGED THE WAY YOU FEEL ABOUT YOURSELF? The classes at btone use technique and equipment that was new to me when I first started, and although there can sometimes be a bit of a learning curve, getting used to (and coming to love) this way of working out has allowed me to feel much more confident in my ability to tackle new workouts and challenge my body in new ways.
WHAT ACTIVITIES DO YOU FIND EASIER NOW DUE TO THE WORKOUT? I have always been an active person, but I think the result I’m most impressed with is what btone has done for my endurance. Endurance (especially cardio endurance) has always been something I have struggled with and have had to fight my body to build. In both the tone classes and the row classes, however, endurance work comes guaranteed, and I don’t have to spend hours on a treadmill or in the weight room to get results.
WHATS YOUR FAVORITE EXERCISE AND WHY? Definitely the water rower. It works the entire body, but is low-impact, which means it’s something I can do frequently without having to worry about overuse injuries. It also kicks my butt more in 45 minutes than any other workout (cardio or not) I have ever done.
WHATS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT THE STUDIO? The atmosphere. There’s tons of great light. Unlike many gyms, where you feel like you’re working out in a poorly-lit basement or garage (and sometimes are), the btone studio is a space you’d actually like to spend time in, working out or not.

WHAT STUDIO LOCATION DO YOU GO TO? (and let me say that I really really like when someone types in ALL CAPS. Doesn't at all give me a Proustian rush of being back in Junior High and being yelled at by the librarian for correcting the typos in the dictionary; not at all): Lexington, the bexington!
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN COMING TO BTONE? Closing in on five years. I fear that some day you'll move and not tell me, but unless/until that happens, I'm good. And, don't say you won't do that. My parents made the same promise, and, well...
HOW OFTEN DO YOU COME TO CLASS? I attend classes three times a week on average. I used to go to morning classes, which were a great way to get my blood flowing, but a couple of years ago, the bed gravity in my house must have increased, and I had to switch to early evenings.
TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF? Sadly, there's not much to tell. I work. I go to btone. I sleep. I binge watch "Who's the Boss". I go to more btone. I teach grad school. I sleep. I work. I write fan letters to Tony Danza. Et cetera. Et cetera. Et cetera. (and he also sends us the FUNNIEST emails on anything and everything btone...expect a blog post from him soon.)
WHAT DO YOU REMEMBER ABOUT YOUR FIRST CLASS? Okay, cool, I do remember it pretty well. It was a Sunday class and I attended only because you were running a Groupon. I bought a 5 pack (I think). That first morning, I introduced myself to "Robert" and he showed me how to use the machine. Class began, and I can honestly say that my muscles had never been pulled, pushed, and challenged so much in years. Soon, we were five minutes into class. I don't remember what exercises we did that morning, but I remember walking out thinking "why the f--- did I buy the 5-pack?" And, when literally (note I'm using that word correctly) every muscle in my body ached Monday morning. And, Tuesday morning. And, the better parts of Wednesday through Saturday, I decided I'd just 'eat' the remaining classes. But, a little voice told me that I should really go again, since I had - after all - paid for it. I thanked Stacie(my better half) for making me go to btone, and asked her why her voice was so little and she said she had a sore throat. I kept going and the rest is history or maybe not history but civics? Intro to glass blowing? Whatever, it's now the past.
HOW HAS BTONE CHANGED THE WAY YOU FEEL ABOUT WORKING OUT? Before going to btone, I'd always looked at working out as a chore. I would do it and I would probably get a lot out of it, but I always had that hesitation when leaving my house or even just thinking about it earlier in the day. No more. I like the workouts so much that I look forward to them and have no hesitation about heading off to class. Except when I lose my keys, which I've now cut down to only three times a week.
HOW HAS BTONE CHANGED THE WAY YOU FEEL ABOUT YOURSELF? I feel pretty, oh so pretty. Nope. Scratch that. I guess it's just that I feel more balanced physically. Not that there are many occasions to stand on one leg or do a plank (tailgating does come to mind, though), but I guess I just feel a sort of a "healthy aura" now.
WHAT ACTIVITIES DO YOU FIND EASIER NOW DUE TO THE WORKOUT? Opening pickle jars. Leaping tall buildings in a single bound. Doing planks during business meetings.
WHATS YOUR FAVORITE EXERCISE AND WHY? Superman, and not because I suspect that I may have come from another planet. Well, not just because of that. I suppose it's that I get to put on some pretty tight springs and use my arms, abdomen, and legs and it's an intense challenge, but feels great (if tough). And, I say "I'm superman" to myself while we're doing it. But (usually) quietly.
WHATS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT THE STUDIO? Favorite thing: the instructors. Without them, I'd be flailing on the megaformer. And, probably being asked by the police "just what I think I'm doing there".
WHAT WOULD YOU TELL SOMEONE THAT HAS NEVER BEEN TO THE STUDIO BEFORE AND IS ABOUT TO TAKE THEIR FIRST CLASS? "You are about to enter a world of both pain and pleasure that you have never known (unless you're a Sox fan). You'll be challenged; you'll fail; you'll succeed; you'll get discouraged; you'll get encouraged; you'll use muscles that you didn't know existed in the human body; you'll find that you're not as uncoordinated as you think you are; you'll laugh; you'll cry; you'll wish you never came to class; you'll wish you started this stuff years ago. You'll have a great day."

TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF? I'm pushing 60 and have a pretty strenuous job. I need to work out if I want to ....eat....like anything or drink... and I do enjoy my wine with dinner. I try to convince myself that "strong is the new skinny" and Btone is the perfect tool for that!
WHAT DO YOU REMEMBER ABOUT YOUR FIRST CLASS? Colleen was so chill and mellow, and I was soooo sore afterwards, in a good way. I felt I'd really never worked that hard before, without all that impact of aerobics, step, running, etc.
HOW HAS BTONE CHANGED THE WAY YOU FEEL ABOUT WORKING OUT? It is a compliment to the other things I try to do and helps me be more in tune with what I can do and how much I can push myself.
HOW HAS BTONE CHANGED THE WAY YOU FEEL ABOUT YOURSELF? The instructors have a perfect balance of being supportive and pushing my limits, that I feel stronger and more able to do the extra lunges, squats or whatever, notwithstanding how I might be shaking.
WHAT ACTIVITIES DO YOU FIND EASIER NOW DUE TO THE WORKOUT? - I feel I'm safer doing anything else because I'm stronger and better in tune with my body.
WHATS YOUR FAVORITE EXERCISE AND WHY? The ab work. Wheels and exercises that get to the hard to get lower abs.
WHATS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT THE STUDIO? The people.
WHAT WOULD YOU TELL SOMEONE THAT HAS NEVER BEEN TO THE STUDIO BEFORE AND IS ABOUT TO TAKE THEIR FIRST CLASS? This is harder work than you've ever had to do before. But you will see results, if not visually, then in your own sense of strength and centering.

TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF? I was born and raised in San Diego and moved to Boston during the recession of 1988, after getting a degree in Architecture at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. I ended up on another path and now work in sales operations/sales support at a public, global information company. I have a cat named Djuna and a boyfriend named Paul, who followed me to Btone one day and hasn't stopped. I love art and music and good food. In my free time, I write essays and enjoy spending time on the Outer Cape and Martha's Vineyard, and travellng, especially to Mexico.
WHAT DO YOU REMEMBER ABOUT YOUR FIRST CLASS? It was a private lesson with Dahne (in training) and Jody. I was pretty sure they were going to have to call for an ambulance.
HOW HAS BTONE CHANGED THE WAY YOU FEEL ABOUT WORKING OUT? I am far more accepting of discomfort because I know it leads to results. Many days, I actually look forward to working out. Six months after starting at Btone, an anesthesiologist looked over my blood work before a heart procedure and said, "You do a really intense workout, don't you?" That made me feel good, to know that results are in my blood.
HOW HAS BTONE CHANGED THE WAY YOU FEEL ABOUT YOURSELF? That I do this three times a week is a miracle, and I feel a great sense of accomplishment (not to mention relief) each time class comes to an end, even if I had to modify half the moves. I have an improved relationship with my body, and am better aware of what it needs and is capable of. Also, the confidence Btone instills through "results via discomfort" translates to other areas of life, all forms of work.
WHAT ACTIVITIES DO YOU FIND EASIER NOW DUE TO THE WORKOUT? I would say all physical activity benefits from the workout, as does most mental activity. All things that require endurance benefit.
WHATS YOUR FAVORITE EXERCISE AND WHY? Fifth Lunge, because six hundred muscles are simultaneously at work, and I love efficiency.
WHATS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT THE STUDIO? The instructors. They are all terrific at guiding us through the workout.
WHAT WOULD YOU TELL SOMEONE THAT HAS NEVER BEEN TO THE STUDIO BEFORE AND IS ABOUT TO TAKE THEIR FIRST CLASS? When the discomfort is almost unbearable, remember this: it's just a sensation. You'll soon be on to another exercise. And then you'll be hooked.

HOW OFTEN DO YOU COME? Every day! Sometimes I do row on the weekends, but I'm very Tone loyal.
TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF? I moved to Boston in May 2015 from New Orleans. I had been doing barre every day for the three years before moving to Boston. When I moved here I joined a Boston barre studio, but after 5 months I wasn't really feeling the vibe, and felt like I didn't get excited to go anymore. I heard about btone from a friend and decided to give it a try, and was immediately addicted. I still look forward to every class which says a lot since I do 6am every week day.
WHAT DO YOU REMEMBER ABOUT YOUR FIRST CLASS? I remember walking out and calling my best friend. She had been telling me to try the Megaformer for months, and I was so mad at myself for not listening to her sooner. I remember I was SO sore afterward, which surprised me, since I had been doing barre daily for so long. I thought my core strength was way better than it actually was.
HOW HAS BTONE CHANGED THE WAY YOU FEEL ABOUT WORKING OUT? I feel so much stronger. I like that class is still hard for me and I can still tell there is room for improvement. It feels like I'll never plateau.
HOW HAS BTONE CHANGED THE WAY YOU FEEL ABOUT YOURSELF? I have abs for the first time. My boyfriend says I have a butt for the first time but I don't really see it. I definitely don't work out to lose weight, but just to feel good. I always leave btone feeling better than I did when I entered. I used to leave other classes frustrated, feeling like I didn't push myself hard enough, but NOT at btone.
WHAT ACTIVITIES DO YOU FIND EASIER NOW DUE TO THE WORKOUT? Pushing the revolving doors at work. I know this sounds ridiculous, but its everyday activities like that where I notice my core strength the most. I also do other work out classes and always notice how easy the abs feel compared to btone abs.
WHATS YOUR FAVORITE EXERCISE AND WHY? Teaser. It's a love hate relationship but it targets the obliques, which is the area I'm most insecure about. So I happily suffer through every time. I also love lat pull downs. I hate catfish but I know it's just because I'm not good at it yet.
WHATS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT THE STUDIO? The instructors. The class is small so it always feels intimate. They also aren't reading a script, they're fully engaged. I've been to most of the workout studios in the city thanks to class pass and btone definitely has the most enthusiastic instructors.
WHAT WOULD YOU TELL SOMEONE THAT HAS NEVER BEEN TO THE STUDIO BEFORE AND IS ABOUT TO TAKE THEIR FIRST CLASS? Be prepared to re-work your budget because there's no way you can go and NOT get addicted. I had originally started with class pass, but after three classes I cancelled class pass and bought an unlimited btone package.
Thank you for creating such a great work out with such a great environment. I tell anyone I meet that it's the best workout around and everyone who has gone always seems to agree.
Thanks Nicole for sharing your btone story! There is often a common theme amongst the btone crowd, and that is the addicting feeling you get. We may have to start a btone support group soon, because we hear this ALL THE TIME. Whether you come in every day or twice a week, you TOO can feel the amazing results that this accessible workout provides. Whether on the megaformer or waterrower there is something for EVERYONE.
